    The dynamic logic of stating and asking

    Inquisitive dynamic epistemic logic (IDEL) extends standard public announcement logic incorporating ideas from inquisitive semantics. In IDEL, the standard public announcement action can be extended to a more general public utterance action, which may involve a statement or a question. While uttering a statement has the effect of a standard announcement, uttering a question typically leads to new issues being raised. In this paper, we investigate the logic of this general public utterance action. We find striking commonalities, and some differences, with standard public announcement logic. We show that dynamic modalities admit a set of reduction axioms, which allow us to turn any formula of IDEL into an equivalent formula of static inquisitive epistemic logic. This leads us to establish several complete axiomatizations of IDEL, corresponding to known axiomatizations of public announcement logic

    Effective representation of RT-LOTOS terms by finite time petri nets

    The paper describes a transformational approach for the specification and formal verification of concurrent and real-time systems. At upper level, one system is specified using the timed process algebra RT-LOTOS. The output of the proposed transformation is a Time Petri net (TPN). The paper particularly shows how a TPN can be automatically constructed from an RT-LOTOS specification using a compositionally defined mapping. The proof of the translation consistency is sketched in the paper and developed in [1]. The RT-LOTOS to TPN translation patterns formalized in the paper are being implemented. in a prototype tool. This enables reusing TPNs verification techniques and tools for the profit of RT-LOTOS

    Evaluations of epistemic components for resolving the muddy children puzzle

    We evaluate the 3 child muddy children puzzle using the epistemic logic of shallow depths GL. This system is used to evaluate what components are necessary for a resolution. These components include the basic beliefs of a child, the necessary depths of the epistemic structures, and the observations about the inactions of others added after a stage. These are all given explicitly, and their necessity is examined. We formulate the concept of a resolution as a process of inferences, actions, observations, and belief changes. We give three theorems. The first one gives a specific resolution, in which no common knowledge is involved. The second theorem states that any resolution has length of at least 3. The third theorem shows that the resolution given in the first theorem is minimal in various senses. In this manner, the necessary components for a resolution of the puzzle are evaluated

    Logics of knowledge and action: critical analysis and challenges

    International audienceWe overview the most prominent logics of knowledge and action that were proposed and studied in the multiagent systems literature. We classify them according to these two dimensions, knowledge and action, and moreover introduce a distinction between individual knowledge and group knowledge, and between a nonstrategic an a strategic interpretation of action operators. For each of the logics in our classification we highlight problematic properties. They indicate weaknesses in the design of these logics and call into question their suitability to represent knowledge and reason about it. This leads to a list of research challenges
